"TELLING TIME"

Some how some way, it’s nearing the end of June! This probably means the weather in the Pacific Northwest is rockin’ it beautiful and there doesn’t seem to be enough time to do everything that needs to be done.

That’s how I usually feel right about this time of year, but being down on the other side of the globe has really turned my seasonal rhythm upside down. Based on the light intensities and air temperatures, it feels more like time for the Holidays. And that’s what we look forward to the most. This next year is going to be very exciting. H&I didn’t think that we would ever have another year to look forward to as much is this last year that we just had, but the next 12 months looks even more exciting!

We look forward to wedding(s), holiday dramas, first year at University, siblings growing up, more traveling (but with friends and family), starting new jobs and getting back to it!

H&I now have about 6 weeks left in NZ. The next 4 will be with our heads down getting ready to make the transition back to the USA. The last 2 will spent on an intense and savage excursion across both islands of this beautiful island. Our great friends Hayley "La Belle a Belle", Josh “the Good Doctor Spansail”, and Dylan “G Child”, Eliot “Easy E” are all arriving at the Christchurch International Airport at 8:45 in the morning on Sunday July 12th!

From there, we will all load up into a 6 berth Camper Van filled to the brim with boxes of beer, ramen noodles and enough packets of instant coffee to kill of family of hungry black bears. Then we’re gonna drive like possessed crazy people and see as much of this country as we can in 13 days. It certainly has the makings of a trip rife with sleep deprivation, tomfoolery and borderline criminal behavior… I’ll have it no other way!

TRANSITIONS

Other than getting ready for this next transition, H&I have been keeping it real quite. I've been spending much of my time studying up for GRE (Graduate School Records Exam) over at the city library. I have my test scheduled for the 18th of August, which is three short weeks after we get back. Aside from the time "being of the essence", I really feel that I need a brow raising score to overcome my white-boy, middle-socio-economical status-ness. The profession I really want to have a career in (Green Building Industry specializing in Construction Management and Consultancy with Residential Energy Conservation/Performance Systems) seems to be loaded with people who are much brighter, more multi-culturally diverse and come from a more advantaged background than me. But all the same, I figure I have a puncher's chance at knocking this thing in the teeth and producing an astonishing score. I'm shooting for a Will Hunting type situation, substituting the blinding intelligence with a down and dirty French-Irish work ethic.

Heather is more excited about the next 3 months than I have ever seen her be about anything. Last night, after we had already been in bed for an hour trying to doze off, I looked over to see her perusing her calender book with a big smile and a head-lamp on. This is the document she plans her life through. It is a 3" x 7", 2009 Pictures of New Zealand Calender Book filled with important dates, her work schedule and reminders of cool events. To me it looks like a dozen pages of scribbles and lists. Sometimes I wonder if it could actually be used as a physical diagram of what her mind would like expressed as art. This is the kind of moment when I look at her and know for sure that she is my girl; The Girl. She is very enthusiastic about simple exciting things and her excitability is very contagious.
